PAIN AFTER TOOTH EXTRACTION

WHY DOES THE EXTRACTION SITE HURT?

During tooth extraction the operator extracts the tooth, the ligaments, and the arteries around the tooth bed. There will be bone resorption around the extraction site with time, because of the decrease of the bone’s blood supply.

A blood clot arises at the extraction site which closes the way from the oral cavity to the bone and it does not let bacterias to infect the area.

If this blood clot is rinsed out or suck out from it’s place, then bacterial contamination of the bone will happen. (it is called dry socket)

If the pain is increasing after 3 days of the extraction, then the blood clot has been probably rinsed out or damaged.

In this case you should contact us immediately.
