MY JAW JOINT CLICKS

WHY DOES MY JAW JOINT CLICK?

The jaw joint is a paired joint. The joint is made up of the articular indentation of the temporal bone and the head of the jawbone.

When moving, the two joints must be in sync. When the jaw is opened, the joint head moves forward and slides forward down a slope (tuberculum articulare).

When opened, if there is a clicking sound, there is an abnormal contact on the slope of the head sliding back and forth and the tuberculum articulare, which appears as a clicking sound. A similar situation may exist with lateral movement.

Why could this pathological contact be between the two anatomical areas?

The closed rest position is abnormal , the head starts from a higher position and therefore the collision occurs. It can cause this

  • a long-term improperly made large-scale denture

  • improperly or difficult to control orthodontic treatment

  • long-uncorrected, abnormal deep bite

If the movement of the page is abnormal , it may cause a clicking sound

  • a long-term improperly made large-scale denture where the tips of the teeth impede "grinding" movement.

  • improperly or difficult to control orthodontic treatment

  • a long-uncorrected, abnormal bite form

NOT ONLY CLICK, BUT I HAVE ANIMAL PAIN, WHAT MAY BE THAT?

The bones are connected to each other by joints. Bones are moved by muscles:

  • musculus masster (originates and adheres to the frontal arch and between the outer lateral corners of the jaw)

  • musculus temporalis (originates and adheres behind the ear on the temple and between the area near the jaw)

  • musculus pterygoideus medialis (originates and adheres between the inner corner of the jaw and the skull)

  • musculus pterygoideus lateralis (internal complex muscle)

These muscles can react with pain if jaw movement is restricted. Obstructed head displacement can be caused by abnormal bite shape, obstructing tooth tips, or improperly fixed fixed prostheses. In this case, the muscles can only move the jaw in an overstretched abnormal position and this leads to a strong or duller muscle pain.

Many times, muscle pain can be triggered by a stressful life. In this case, muscle tightness due to stress forces the jaw joint into a pathological situation.

If the patient starts chewing on only one side due to the pain, it will sooner or later overload the contralateral jaw joint, which may also further aggravate the pain.

HOW CAN YOUR JAW JOINT HAVE?

There is no magic medicine to cure joint diseases of the jaw.

What you need to do:

A healthy bite shape needs to be developed

  • make a night rail (this only puts the jaw in an ideal position during night use)

  • with special orthodontic intervention

  • by making a special denture

  • prescribing muscle relaxants

  • with muscle therapy

  • with a stress-free lifestyle change

WHEN SHOULD THE JAW JOINT BE TREATED?

When symptoms appear, it is advisable to treat them as soon as possible, as they are initially reversible, ie the pathological changes are reversible.
