COLD TOOTH SENSITIVITY

 WHY IS THE TOOTH SENSITIVE TO COLD?

The outer layer of the tooh is the enamel and the inner part is called the dentin. Provided that there are uncovered dentin surface then the tooth will sense pain to cold stimulus.

WHAT CAN CAUSE TOOTH SENSITIVITY?

  • gum recession

  • tooth cusp crack

  • tooth crack

  • bad fitted crowns and filling

  • tooth abfraction

  • cervical caries

  • after teethwhitening

  • constant use of whitening tooth paste

HOW TO TREAT COLD SENSITIVITY?

  • In case of exposed dentin on the cervical area of the tooth: application of varnish on the tooth cervical area

  • In case of cervical caries: caries removal and dental filling

  • In case of exposed dentin with dental fillings or crown: application of varnish ont he tooth cervical area or make a new dental restauration

  • In case of seroius pain which has been around for a long time and has not been reacting to treatments then a root canal treatment may be indicated.

  • Teeth cold hypersensitivity have to diminish after teeth whitening
