RADIATING TOOTH PAIN

WHY DOES THE TOOTH PAIN IS RADIATING

If a tooth is inflammed, then the pain can radiate through the supplying nerve of the tooth, which can be unbearable. The radiation of the pain can be caused by an inflammed periodontium or by the inflammation of the pulp.

The pain of an inflammed lower tooth can radiate to the same side of the jaw, even to the are of the ear.

The pain of an inflammed upper tooth can radiate to the same side of the jaw, even to the area of the ear and to the lower part of the orbit.

WHAT CAN CAUSE RADIATING TOOTH PAIN?

  • Periodontal pocket

  • Pulp inflammation

  • Tooth filling after a very deep caries defect

  • Old root canal fiiled tooth

HOW TO TREAT RADIATING TOOTH PAIN?

  • In case of a periodontal pocket: closed curette and professional teeth cleaning

  • In case of deep caries lesion: tooth filling, and root canal treatment if it is needed

  • In case of pulp inflammation: root canal treratment and tooth reconstruction

  • In case of a root canal treeted tooth: revision and retreatment of the root canal space, and tooth reconstruction
